Deviation Aesthetic Anomaly is a linguistic insurgency in the form of a karaoke video that subverts an excerpt of Greta Thunberg’s 2019 UN Climate Action Summit speech by translating it into the jargon of climate deniers. Drawing on Orwell’s “Newspeak,” the project reverses the logic of suppressive language, turning it into a vehicle for ecological urgency.
Originally created by George Orwell in his book “1984”, Newspeak or Novlang is a controlled state language designed to eliminate subversive thought by erasing the words needed to express it.
This work is an act of hijacking. By mimicking the technocratic vocabulary typically used to obscure climate action, it exposes the mechanisms of disinformation and ignorance. The karaoke format invites audiences to engage with the tension between incomprehensible form and radical content, provoking discomfort and reflection. Ultimately, the work transforms the rhetoric of denial into a tool for truth, using disinformation’s own structure as an act of resistance and ecological awakening.
Deviation Aesthetic Anomaly est une insurrection linguistique sous la forme d’une vidéo de karaoké. Elle détourne un extrait du discours de Greta Thunberg au Sommet de l’ONU sur l’action pour le climat en 2019. Le texte est traduit dans le jargon des climatosceptiques. Inspiré du « novlangue » d’Orwell, le projet inverse la logique d’une langue répressive pour en faire un outil d’urgence écologique.
Dans 1984, Orwell décrit le novlangue comme une langue contrôlée par l’État. Elle est conçue pour éliminer toute pensée subversive en effaçant les mots nécessaires pour l’exprimer.
Cette œuvre est un acte de détournement. Elle imite le vocabulaire technocratique souvent utilisé pour masquer l’action climatique. Ainsi, elle révèle les mécanismes de la désinformation et de l’ignorance. Le format karaoké invite le public à ressentir la tension entre une forme incompréhensible et un contenu radical. Il provoque malaise et réflexion.
Au final, Deviation Aesthetic Anomaly transforme la rhétorique du déni en un outil de vérité; utilisant la structure même de la désinformation comme un acte de résistance et d’éveil écologique.
