Deviation Aesthetic Anomaly is a linguistic insurgency in the form of a karaoke video. Here, an excerpt of Greta Thunberg’s passionate climate emergency speech at the UN Climate Action Summit (2019) has been translated into a cold, disembodied dialect of climate deniers and greenwashers. It is an act of hijacking. This is Newspeak deployed in reverse.
Originally created by George Orwell in his book “1984”, Newspeak or Novlang is a controlled state language designed to eliminate subversive thought by erasing the words needed to express it. Deviation Aesthetic Anomaly turns that mechanism back on itself. Where climate deniers have historically used cold, technocratic jargon to bury urgency and defer action, the project uses that same machinery to express radical ecological truth. The absurdity of the language reveals the violence of disinformation itself. Through the karaoke format, viewers are invited to participate actively in the tension between the form and the content. They are inevitably struggling to articulate a sterile language while the original passion of Greta’s words appears simultaneously in subtitles. This jargon is meant to be nearly impossible to understand. This dissonance is intentional to provoke discomfort, confusion, and a sense of alienation — just as climate denial discourse does when it neutralizes truth and spreads ignorance.
It is a sabotage of agnotology that fights the manufacture of ignorance with its own architecture. It is verbal Aikido: flowing with the opponent’s words only to bend them toward ecological awakening. The language of suppression is thus forced to utter the truths it was designed to bury.
Deviation Aesthetic Anomaly est une insurrection linguistique sous la forme d'une vidéo de karaoké. Ici, le discours passionné de Greta Thunberg sur l'urgence climatique au Sommet de l'Action pour le Climat de l'ONU (2019) a été traduit dans un dialecte froid et dépersonnalisé des négationnistes du climat et des "greenwashers". C'est un acte de piratage. Il s'agit de novlangue, déployée à l'envers.
Créée à l'origine par George Orwell dans son livre 1984, la novlangue est un langage contrôlé conçu par l'État pour éliminer la pensée subversive en effaçant les mots nécessaires à son expression. Deviation Aesthetic Anomaly renverse ce mécanisme contre lui-même. Là où les négationnistes du climat ont historiquement utilisé un jargon froid et technocratique pour enterrer l'urgence et différer l'action, ce projet utilise cette même machinerie pour exprimer une vérité écologique radicale. L'absurdité du langage révèle la violence de la désinformation elle-même. À travers le format du karaoké, les spectateurs sont invités à participer activement à la tension entre la forme et le contenu. Ils luttent inévitablement afin d’articuler un langage stérile tandis que la passion originelle du discours de Greta apparaît simultanément dans les sous-titres. Ce jargon est censé être presque impossible à comprendre. Cette dissonance intentionnelle vise à provoquer de l'inconfort, de la confusion et un sentiment d'aliénation — tout comme le discours de déni climatique le fait lorsqu'il neutralise la vérité et propage l'ignorance.
C’est en somme un sabotage d'agnotologie qui lutte contre la fabrique de l’ignorance avec sa propre architecture. C'est de l'Aïkido verbal : composer avec les mots de l'adversaire pour les détourner vers l'éveil écologique. Le langage de la répression est ainsi contraint d’énoncer les vérités qu'il était censé enterrer.
